Mary, I just read your website and the story on Moe.  My heart just cannot believe what I just read.  I had no idea about this.  I am really learning a lot about this, especially after losing my Daizzee.  I had absolutely no idea that 99% of puppies in pet stores are from puppymills?  I am sickened to death and had I known this, I never ever would have bought my Daizzee from that puppy store in Chicago.  Not only could she have been inbred, possibly her parents were in cages.  I'm sick!  Thank you for this education.  P.S.  I will be sending a pic of Benny and Rocky, the new adopted cross-Bostons soon.  I am sooo glad we got them from a shelter!  Jeannie

Meet Daizzee:   http://www.angelfire.com/pe2/daizzee/daizzee/

She was born in Nebraska at a PuppyMill owned by Margaret Focken , sold to a puppy broker at the age of 6 weeks and taken to the Dog Patch Pet & Feed, 1108 E. Ogden, Naperville, IL 60563. There she was sold to Jeannie Kamenir at the age of 8 weeks on 08/10/2004.  She lived with Jeannie for a year and a half and was spoiled rotten.  Then sadly we received the following emails on 12/20/2005:

My Boston Baby girl Daizzee Mae passed away swiftly and unexpectedly early Monday morning.  I only had her 1-1/2 years.  They did an autopsy and she was found to have a birth defect.  A very small tear about half an inch.  As she grew older, the tear grew bigger until finally Sunday night her intestines blew threw the hole and strangled her and she bled to death.  She was dead in a matter of eight hours.  There were no signs, no symptoms, nothing.  I am completely devastated as I am divorced with no children.  When I got Daizzee in August of 04, she became the brightest sunshine of my life. I made her happy and she made me happy 24/7.  I could go on and on but I guess I just wanted to tell you all to please hug your furbabies especially tight tonight and give them extra kisses and hugs, cuz you never know how quickly God takes them away.  If anyone can send me just a hey letter it will be alright, or just tell me a story of your loss of a Boston, it sure would help me get through this unbearable grief.  Thank You.  Jeannie Kamenir, Daizzee's Mom

Hi friends, you probably don't know me.  But I have been a part of your group for some time now.  I sit back and listen.  I need to now tell you a very sad story.

Below is a photo of Daizzee's grave.  Mary, if you would like to insert it into your website, please feel free.  I have received one USDA Inspection Report I ordered on the breeder, and the girl that obtained it for me told me there are indications that there are more.  She gave me the form and I was able to order all Inspection Reports for three years, i.e. 12-30-02 to 12-30-05.  I should be receiving them shortly.  The one I did receive was an inspection done in January of 04.  They found three violations:

1)    Vet care plan was not at the facility which affected 147 dogs;
2)    At the time of inspection the "dog ,,,  was observed to be thin and emaciated;"
3)    At the time of inspection ... "are in need of having wind and rain breaks installed at the entrance.  These pens have dog houses that do not have adequate wind and rain breaks.  This must be done to provide the dogs protection from the elements.  This affected 18 dogs."

And this was where Daizzee was born and where her parents came from.  I will let you know what I find out when I receive the other reports.  I'm just sickened.  It has been absolutely proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that my baby came from a puppymill.  It has been two weeks and I'm still crying.  I feel like I'm never going to get over this.  My next step when I obtain all evidence and reports on the breeder is to write the pet shop in Illinois.  I found their "two year warranty against life threatening genetic problems."  What a joke.  They will only replace your dog with another puppy.  Like I want another one from there!  Jeannie

P.S.  If anyone else would like to order a report from the USDA, it costs nothing unless it's over 100 pages.  Here is the link:  http://www.petshoppuppies.com/efoia.htm

Here's a Poem in Memory of My Daizzee Mae:

IN MEMORY OF DAIZZEE MAE

I will lend to you for a while, a pup, God said,

For you to love her while she lives

and mourn for her when she's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three

But will you, 'til I call her back, take care of her for me.

She'll bring her charms to gladden you

and (should her stay be brief)

you'll always have her memories

as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay,

since all from earth return

But there are lessons taught below

I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over

in search of teachers true.

And from the folk that crowd life's land

I have chosen you.

Now will you give her all your love

nor think the labor vain,

Nor hate me when I come to take

my Pup back again.

I fancied that I heard them say

"Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"

For all the joys this Pup will bring,

the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness,

we'll love her while we may

And for the happiness we've known

forever grateful stay

But should you call her back much sooner than we've planned,

We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.

If, by our love, we've managed,

your wishes to achieve,

in memory of her we loved,

to help us while we grieve.

When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife, We'll have yet another Pup and love her all her life.

From Jeannie , Daizzee's Human Momma to APRI (the puppymill registry)

I have had a Boston Terrier female for 1-1/2 years. She passed very quickly Sunday night (12/20/2005). She was my baby, my other half. When the vet  took x-rays, not only did he find a deformity in her spine (she as too young to have noticed it) but she had a small tear in her intestine, the vet said from being born with, and then Sunday night  she went into shock and died. I would like to know who MARGARET FOCKEN OF BASSETT NEBRASKA is so that I can verify she was not aware of any birth defects in her dogs.

I bought the Boston Terrier at age eight weeks old at the Dog Patch Pet & Feed, 1108 E. Ogden, Naperville, IL 60563 on 8/10/04.  The papers state the breeder's name is Margaret Focken of Bassett, Nebraska.  Daizzee is registered with the APR # G04-YY-BJ-31617C.  If there is any further information you can find out for me or advise Ms. Focken of the defects in her spine and intestines that were found in Daizzee, please inform me.  During this most painful episode of my life, I need more information on why she only lived 1-1/2 years.  I also paid $675 for that Boston which is above and beyond.  But that's okay.  She was worth every penny.  Thank you.  Jeannie Kamenir

APRI's answer to Jeannie...  and we all know that they never emailed the breeder.
