01/13/2008 - Joy was rescued from a terrible puppymill. She is so much happier now that all those mats are gone and she smells so much better now too. She has decided she likes walking on the ground after spending her entire life walking on the wire of the cage floor. She is about 7 years old and is looking for her first ever Forever Home.
Joy's had eye problems and never received veterinarian care. As a result, she is almost blind. It doesn't stop her though. She is a little slow getting to know her new environment but then she gets around very well. She is a very sweet little girl who wants to be loved.
01/28/2008 - We have received bad news from the puppy Dogtor , Joy has heartworms. Her jaw was busted on one side when we got her and fractured part of the way on the other side on examination. Her jaw bone is very thin and weak from calcium deficiency from starvation and having 14 litters of puppies in 7 years. If it weren't for the starvation and all the babies , one would think bone cancer, but its not cancer.
04/05/2008 - Joy at her new home
Yesterday was nice & sunny, tho' it didn't quite get up to 68
as promised. :) Joy-Jade still enjoyed running around the yard as she always
does. She is hard to take pix of bc she rarely stands still & always wants to
be on mama's feet! But I did get some. She is getting nice & fluffy as her
hair grows out. You can see in some of the pix on her right front leg there is
a spot where it is still short where the vet had shaved it for her IV (when she
went in right when she got here) so it looks funny. :) She is a VERY smart dog
-- I always thought of Pekes as being sweet and a bit silly :) but she is very
smart. She has learned how to go down the deck steps -- but I prefer to carry
her, bc there are no risers and she could slip through an! d fall out the back
of the steps. She almost never has an accident in the house any more, which I
think is totally amazing. She's better than some of my other dogs! She knows
what I mean with many words, which has also astonished me. She knows "come to
mama," when it is time to be picked up to go in or out of the house, "go in the
house" when we are in the back room (coming in from outside) and everybody needs
to go in the kitchen so I can put the baby gate up, "eat eat" and "chow time,"
which sets her to barking, "time to go outside," and "poopoo time," which sets
her to running in little circles wagging her tail, and many more. Anyway enough
of all that. She is so sweet and I think it is amazing how forgiving such a dog
can be after what she has lived through. I think of that all the time when she
is sleeping on my pillow in my arms, and giving me little kisses in the
morning. Here are the pix, enjoy!
Peace,
